Creation

I had the groups each read one text: Gen 1, Gen 2, Psalm 74, Psalm 104, or the Enuma Elish. I asked them to note the order of creation, name of God used, how humanity is discussed, the tone, etc. At the end we discussed the implications of these different playlists (and we referenced the Enuma Elish again).

In previous classes, I had the students simply compare/contrast the Enuma Elish and Genesis 1. Unfortunately, it wasn’t terribly successful. The guided reading worked better. They were able to analyze a single text better than they were able handle two texts at once. Comparing and contrasting as a group at the end proved to be a better exercise.
